Norsk translation services

When saying Norway most of us think of Vikings and the midnight sun, Grieg or Munch. But there is much more to this rather remote northern country than meets the eye. For a start, Norway is the most prosperous country in Europe, an important achievement for a land inhabited by no more than 4 and a half million people.

Norwegian, the language spoken by the inhabitants of Norway and another million people in Scandinavia and the United States, has two official forms – bokmål and nynorsk. The difference between the two forms resides in the domains but also in the regions where they are spoken.

Bokmål is the language used in most official papers and in literature, school and high social circles. It bears a strong Danish influence (inflicted mostly in the over 400 years of Danish rule over Norway) and, especially when written, can be easily understood by a person who speaks Danish.

Nynorsk or landsmål, a more nationalistic language form developed by Ivar Aasen in the nineteenth century, is the language of the common people. Based on rural dialects, this language is rarely used in officialdom and media.

Be it nynorsk or bokmål, the New Lingo translation agency offers its services to those interested in translations from/into Norwegian. We’re open 24/7 so feel free to contact us or place an online quote.
